What Is Look! Squirrel!

Character Display

The cartoons in Look! Squirrel! explore the strange, funny, and surprisingly familiar ways our minds create stress, confusion, anxiety, frustration, and sometimes unnecessary suffering. Each cartoon is meant to be funny first and thoughtful second.

1. Capybara. The Everyday Person

Capybara. The Everyday Person

The Capybara represents the reader and the everyday human experience. They're kind, curious, well-meaning, and often caught between overthinking and inner wisdom. The Capybara is never portrayed as foolish, just someone trying to navigate life.

2. Squirrel. The Mind

Squirrel. The Mind

The Squirrel represents the thinking mind. It is hyperactive, always planning, scanning for danger, creating checklists, emergency plans, and worst-case scenarios. Importantly, the Squirrel is not the villain. It genuinely believes it is helping. Much of the humor comes from watching the Squirrel take its survival role far too seriously.

3. Flower Capybara. The Self

Flower Capybara. The Self

The Flower Capybara represents the deeper Self of the main capybara: peace, presence, trust, joy, and clarity. It rarely speaks, never argues, and never lectures. While the Squirrel may produce pages of analysis, the Flower Capybara often offers a simple observation that changes the entire perspective. Flowers around the character symbolize natural growth and effortless unfolding.

In Short:

  • Capybara: the person
  • Squirrel: the mind
  • Flower Capybara: the deeper Self
