Finding Freedom from Panic Attacks

A personal perspective on understanding anxiety, panic and buried emotions.

We are not here to suffer. We can become free
We are not here to suffer. We can become free

A question was recently asked: "I've struggled with a lot of anxiety. Even sometimes panic attacks. How to pull out of this?"

I know what you're going through. I myself have had major panic attacks in my life. I often said that I wouldn't wish a panic attack on my worst enemy (not that I have enemies.) I took medication for a couple years and had some really tough days. But you know what? That's done and over with now. I still get anxiety but I have a new way of relating to it that allows me to be free of the suffering.

What I found was that what looks like the absolute worst thing that happens to you can be the most wonderful thing, if you allow it to. Yes, I know. That sounds absurd but let me explain it to you.

There's a reason for panic attacks. A very logical and natural reason. From what you say about your life, it sounds to me like the things that you don't want or like, you try to push away. To suppress them. To make them go away. Perhaps not even consciously. As a small child, we can pick up strong thought patterns that we are not loved, because that seems to be the way the world is treating us. And in order to survive, we bury these patterns deep inside such that we don't even know they're there. We have to, because we don't know any other way to get through life.

The problem with burying emotional issues is that they don't want to stay buried. I know this is hard to understand at your point in life, but your natural state of existence is one of love and joy. But, as you know, you certainly don't feel that way right now. And probably have convinced yourself that you never will.

Buried Emotional Energies Want Out!

Don't believe that. It's not true. You have a part of you that IS love and joy and truly wants you to live with that. That's hard to accept because of these buried emotional energies that you probably don't remember putting there. They want out! They don't want to stay buried. They want release. And now here's the very important part that you need to hear:

When they come up to be released, they feel exactly the same way they did when you buried them. You were feeling anxiety, insecurity, unworthy and unloved. A child cannot handle that. The natural reaction is to bury them deep. But now you're no longer a child and understand that you don't need to buy into those. But still... they arise in you as fear and anxiety and can be so strong. Without any knowledge of what's happening to you and why these are affecting you, the tendency is to freak out.

Your panic attacks are buried emotions from the past that are insisting to be released. Which is wonderful. If you can let them go, you will once again be wide open to love and peace. But if you don't let them go, if you insist on trying to push them away, to suppress them, well... that gives you panic attacks. Because of the fear that something is awfully wrong and you could die.

Not so. Not so. Not so. You just don't know what's going on and the emotions are intense and what else can you do, if you don't know why it's happening? That's suffering. Believe me, I know. THAT is intense suffering. But it's due to not knowing what is happening.

My great desire is to help others who find themselves in a similar situation and don't understand what's going on. I can tell you how to end the suffering. But it will require great commitment on your part. But, see the motivation you have. The motivation is to not only free yourself from the suffering but embrace the anxiety and honor it, because of what it will bring you to.

Here's The Knowledge You Need

These emotions coming up in you are just wanting to be released. They don't intend to harm you. You are the one harming yourself by trying to push the energy back down. Just let it be. When it appears, relax into it. Instead of immediately wanting out, be OK with it and let it do what it's going to do as you relax right into it. It's going to take courage. How well I know that. But truly, what your mind will tell you is that this is awful and terrible. You cannot believe that. It's only energy in motion and will release after some time. You just have to be willing to take whatever time it takes.

The result of doing that will show you something magnificent. On the other side of the fear and panic and desperation to be free of these emotions, (which you put there in the first place, don't forget that) is your natural self. You are a being of great love and joy, but you forgot. And with all those stuffed emotions jerking you around, why would you feel that way? But as soon as you let yourself be free of these by letting them pass through, you will find that what I say is true. And be so pleased and thrilled with your life.

I've been there. I've done that. And I am still in the process of allowing anxiety to pass through me when it needs to. But I've come to the "other side" of that often enough to know that who we think we are is just a tiny, tiny bit of Reality. And even though what I've described may sound difficult, it is your ticket to a new way of living with peace and joy.

If something in you knows there must be a better way to live than "Oh, No" then these are the practices you've been looking for.
